My Shower Ritual

We're heading into a full moon, and because the full moon is such an awesome time for release and letting go, I thought it was the perfect time to finally share my shower rituals with you (if you're a long-time reader, you'll know this is something I've been meaning to do for a while.

I think I've mentioned this already, but I have two rituals; one for when I have a shower in the morning, and one for when I have a shower at night.

I got the idea for these rituals from Vella Mour's new moon rituals, which you can sign up to here if you're interested, and started incorporating them into my daily routine.

The thing I love about my shower rituals is that while showering, in general, is pretty mundane, they help keep me mindful and present and set the intention for how I want the day to go.

Now that I've got that out of the way, here are my shower rituals:

Morning Ritual

I do my morning ritual to help keep me mindful and present during the day. I like to do this if I've got a big day ahead, or I'm really excited about something; this ritual acts as a reminder to not get so hung up/grumpy if things don’t go my way.

When I'm in the shower I like to stand under the water for a few seconds, feeling it against my skin. I then grab either my soap or shower gel and start lathering up. While I'm washing I like to stay something similar to the incantation below:

I wash away from any expectation I have for today
and I let go of any negativity or energy that is not serving me or my highest self.
I release any attachment to outcome
I do this so I won't be angry or upset if things don't go my way
With the intention that I will have the best possible day

After saying that incantation, or prayer, if you will, I wash off the soap and stand under the water for a while longer with my palms turned upward. and kind of meditate for a minute or so. I’m not sure what it is, but I find just standing under the water really calming.

Evening Ritual

if I’m showering in the evening, sometime's I'll light a few candles (we don't have a bath in our apartment, and so it's my way of feeling as if i'm having a bath whichout actually having one)

For my evening ritual I like to recite something similar to the following incantation:

I wash away any negativity from the day
And any energy that is no longer serving me or my highest self
As I prepare myself for a long and restful night's sleep.

As with my morning ritual, after saying this incantation, I wash off all the soap off and stand under the water for a bit longer with my palms upright, meditating under the flowing water for a minute or so.

After my shower, I get started on my evening skincare routine, before into getting into bed and putting on a Simple Habit meditation.
