Homemade Orange Soda Syrup

If your childhood was anything like mine the SodaStream was only brought out on special occasions and it was always the orange flavour.

Lately, despite not being much of a fan of orange soda I've been feeling surprisingly nostalgic about it, and because Valencia oranges are in season, I decided to whip up some soda syrup.

The syrup I made doesn't taste anything like the soda from my childhood, and to be honest, I much prefer my one (the humblebrag is strong with this one).

Today, I wanted to share my recipe with you. If you make it, please let me know what you thought in the comments.

Homemade Orange Soda Syrup

  • 2 cups fresh orange juice

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup orange zest

  1. Add all your ingredients to a medium sized saucepan;

  2. Bring to a simmer over a medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved.

  3. Reduce heat and continue to simmer with the lid on for 45 minutes

  4. Set aside and allow to cool slightly. Strain syrup through a sieve to remove zest and pulp and pour into sterilised bottles.

    How t serve: mix 1 part syrup with approximately 3 parts sparkling water.

    Syrup should keep in the fridge for about three weeks.
